Brazil’s Economy Contracted in First Quarter

Pedro Zevallos, emerging markets portfolio manager at Dalton Investments, was recently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, discussing Brazil’s economy. For the first time in nine quarters, Brazil’s economy shrank during Q119. Brazil’s new president recently introduced a bill that would potentially save billions of dollars through a pension system overhaul. “[Companies] are willing to invest, and hopeful to do it, but want to see what happens with the pension reform,” said Zevallos.
